Centre for Competition and Regulatory Policy

Welcome to the Centre for Competition & Regulatory Policy.

The Centre for Competition and Regulatory Policy (CCRP) is a research-oriented centre that brings together academics, policymakers, and practitioners working in the areas of competition and regulation. Its core mission is to advance and disseminate research on the functioning of both regulated and non-regulated markets, with work spanning competition policy, industrial organisation, financial economics, behavioural economics, and related fields. The Centre is recognised for its programme of dissemination activities, including research workshops, policy roundtables, and executive training courses, which provide a platform for dialogue between academia and practice and ensure that research findings inform policy and regulatory debates.

City/CMA annual workshops

In collaboration with the Competition and Markets Authority, the CCRP hosts annual workshops on Economics of Competition and Regulation.

  • The 2025 edition (17-18 June 2025) focused on innovation, industrial policy and economic growth.
  • The 2024 edition (22-23 July 2024) focused on DMCC Act, market power and labour markets.
  • The 2023 edition (8-9 June 2023) focused on digital markets.

Other workshops

1 May 2025: Behavioural Insights for Policy Workshop brought together experts from economics, psychology, sociology, and computational social science, alongside practitioners and regulators, to explore key issues in consumer choice and online choice architecture, online safety and behavioural interventions, computational modelling with LLM agents, dynamic pricing and behavioural economics, and the potential pitfalls of behavioural policy design.

15 May 2024: Excessive Pricing in Pharma Roundtable was organised in collaboration with the City Health Economics Centre. During the roundtable the panellists, comprising of health economists, competition legal experts and economic consultants, provided their insights on the pricing behaviours of pharmaceutical companies and policy implications of these behaviours.

18 April 2024: Bi-annual CARR/CCRP Round Table on Energy Regulation for technology and system changes in the net zero transition. This was part of our joint Roundtables in Regulation series with the Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Regulation (CARR) at the London School of Economics. Our Round Tables are hosted alternately between the two Centres and address key topics such as Infrastructure Regulation (October 2023) and the Energy Regulation for the Transition to NZ.

7 March 2024: OXERA/CCRP Concurrency and Cooperation: Ex-ante and ex-post approaches in competition policyworkshop was organised in cooperation with Oxera Consulting LLP to explore the impact of concurrency arrangements in the UK and mainland Europe.

Executive training

20-21 March 2025: A two-day executive training course on Regulation of Digital Markets. The course was aimed at PhD students and junior consultants who are relatively new to competition policy. Taught by academic experts and experienced economic practitioners, it offered a comprehensive perspective on the emerging challenges and solutions in regulating digital markets in the EU/UK context.
