Applied Microeconomics

Applied Microeconomics Research Group

The Applied Microeconomics Research Group applies econometric methods to test microeconomic theories and evaluate policies. Our members work across many key areas of applied micro, with core strengths in development, health, and labour economics.

The members of the Applied Microeconomics Research Group use empirical methods to study the impact of policies on both individual and aggregate outcomes. We are one of three research groups within the Department of Economics.

Our members use a range of quantitative and empirical approaches -- including randomised control trials, quasi-experimental research designs, structural economic analysis, and experimental methods. Much of this work uses administrative and survey data, with members working in a variety of local and international contexts. The group's research covers a broad set of applied fields, including labour economics, development economics, family economics, urban economics, and the economics of health, education, migration, and crime.

Our work also contributes to the development of applied microeconometric methods. Across these research areas, a unifying theme is the emphasis on empirically grounded analysis of policy-relevant research questions.
