Institute for Creativity and AI

Our mission

ICAI has two strategic aims:

  1. To understand creative work in the presence of AI and the challenges faced by professionals in business, law, policy development, health and social care and the creative industries in this context
  2. To research, develop and evaluate the impact of new forms of co-creative AI that aim to augment creative work across these professional contexts

Our new forms of co-creative AI technologies are distinctive. We combine different symbolic and connectionist AI technologies in hybrid architectures to augment creative professional work. These white-box architectures offer control over creative processes that professionals can understand, as well as reduce their need for power.

A space to collaborate

ICAI is committed to fostering collaboration and exploration among researchers, academics and practitioners. It serves as a space where ideas can be exchanged, partnerships formed, funding sought, and positive change delivered. Here’s how:

Indicative projects

The Institute’s CebAI project, funded by Research England, launched several new interactive digital tools to support businesses and professionals in thinking more creatively about their business models and strategies.

You can explore the Business Sparks tool online, as well as other co-creative AI tools such as Design Sparks.

The INSIGHTS tool is currently under further development to support innovation and knowledge exchange in the context of higher education.
