This symposium invited PhD students and Early Career Researchers to think together about the methodological challenges and possibilities of researching the digital through arts-based and experimental approaches. The symposium focused on demonstrating, interrogating, and pushing forward the possibilities of creative methodology in digital social research. The Keynote was delivered by Dr Taylor Annabell and Dr Nina Vindum Rasmussen: “Playing with prompts: Creative interventions for digital culture”.

Roundtable on Cyber Security SME's for Critical National Infrastructure (CNI)

13 May 2026

A strong theme throughout the event was the need for better collaboration between government, CNI operators, and SMEs.

Ideas discussed included:

A dedicated cyber security marketplace connecting trusted SMEs with CNI operators
Government-backed certification or kite marks to improve confidence in SME solutions
Shared testing environments and innovation labs
Faster procurement pathways and innovation incentives
Greater board-level cyber literacy and awareness of geopolitical threats

Roundtable on Age Verification

Professor Carrie Myers and Professor Raj Rajarajan hosted an invitation-only COSPI Roundtable on Age Verification, introduced by Andy Lulham, COO, Verifymy. The session explored four key areas to unpack the potential, practicalities, and policy relevance of implementing effective age‑verification systems in the UK.

UK-India Cyber Security Workshop

13 March 2026

Cyber Security does not have boundaries and with the recent geopolitical climate it has become increasingly important for countries to collaborate and work together to protect their critical national infrastructures. This UK-India Cyber Security Workshop brought academics and early career research scholars working in AI, Social Networks, Quantum Security and Internet-of-Things (IoT) together to explore new and emerging areas of cyber security research and identify common themes to work across borders.

Roundtable on Digital ID

Professor Raj Rajarajan and Professor Carrie Myers hosted a COSPI Roundtable on Digital ID, Chaired by Professor Edgar Whitley. Discussions focused on four key areas to unpack the potential, practicalities and policy relevance of moving towards the implementation of a Digital ID in the UK.

UK OSINT Community: Crypto @ Christmas (Public event)

Bringing together voices from across the cryptocurrency and blockchain spectrum for fresh insights on the state of virtual assets. With criminal networks and major economies increasingly beholden to crypto as both a tool and investment class, this event provided a unique perspective to this digital phenomenon.

Online Safety Act: Evidence and Policymaking

10 July 2025

Our “OSA: evidence and policymaking" event, provided an opportunity for our Network partners to get together in person and review our work to date, hear from Ofcom and look ahead to the next phase. This event facilitated discussions to allow civil society organisations, researchers and academics to share learnings from the first phase of the OSA’s implementation and to look ahead, identifying evidence and research gaps to fill and potential collaborations to fill them.
