The Functional Genomics Cell Bank
The Wellcome Trust has funded a mammalian cell bank (a collection of cell cultures) at City St George's, School of Health & Medical Sciences (Tooting), in association with the research group of Dot Bennett and Elena Sviderskaya in the Cell Biology Section, Molecular and Clinical Sciences Research Institute.
The Cell Bank at City St George's, School of Health & Medical Sciences (Tooting), in the Department of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences, within the Cell Biology and Genomics Division, specialises in mouse melanocyte and melanoblast lines carrying a variety of pigmentary mutations. The Cell Bank was funded by the Wellcome Trust. Cell lines of around 50 genotypes are held in the Bank, the majority of which were established at legacy St George's. The collection also includes immortal human melanocytes, melanoma cell lines, stem cell lines, fibroblasts, keratinocytes and other cell types.
The Cell Bank freely supplies cells to researchers, although a fee is charged. From August 2023, this is £525 per vial per cell line for non-commercial users, or £625 per vial per cell line for commercial users, plus transport expenses.
To enquire about obtaining a cell line, or for any other information not available on these pages, please contact the Director, Dr Elena Sviderskaya. Time permitting, new collaborative projects could be considered, including the establishment of new mouse melanocyte or melanoblast lines from genotypes of interest.
